Artist's Comments

I've decided to start posting stuff again, finished or not. :shrug:

So, to begin I will use some random logos I've done. XD
These are all "mockup" logos and logotypes, meaning they're not for any specific purpose or client, rather for potential use. Also, they'll be good practice and can go in my portfolio. Always a good thing to keep up with, practice and portfolio work; something I've been sorely lacking.

Anyhow, onto the design copy...

Clockwise, from top left;

#1 Festivus Cruiseliners
A fictional cruise-liner company logo. The idea here was to use simple colors that are CMYK friendly, as this could be printed on a CMYK printer. I used a fictional - but well known - holiday name for this company. I was looking at companies like Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Disney, etc. for inspiration and reference. I really think it will really add some humor to faux travel items I might design, too. Festivus, it just sounds fun. =D

#2 Locomotive Weekly
A fictional magazine masthead (though as of this publishing, I've heard there may now be a Locomotive magazine, published monthly). I’ve had a little bit of a fascination with trains, most notably old locomotives. I especially like the old streamliners of the 20's and 30's, like the "Art Deco" ones you see in vintage ads (they eventually fell out of fashion during the great depression and have all but disappeared. Shameful). However, for this I didn't use one, but will in some future designs. I think an older, more recognizable steam loco worked best here. Again, I wanted to use just two colors; of course I chose black and blue hue tones. The logo had to be simple, yet show strength and power of the locomotive, so I think the two colors in contrast work well for this style, and represent the loco - giving it that iconic black iron look. I like it, but feel it still needs something...

#3 Imaging Evolution
We were tossing around some ideas at work for slogans, company mottos, tag-lines, etc., that might correlate to what it is our company stands for and is about. Obviously, the simpler the copy, the better; as it would translate well to almost anyone. However, in the end it was decided we'd stick with our current one. So, it all got sidelined. I rather liked this one I came up with. So, I kept it and made this. XD

#4 Eclipse Publishing
A fictional publishing company logo. The idea was to make it simple yet engaging, easily “knocked out” for color separations, and to use just two colors; I chose black and yellow. I think it meets all those expectations, quite well.

I'll likely still play and tweek these a bit, however, these are all deffinately going into my portfolio as they are now.

Perhaps someday I'll get a chance to use these...? $$
